‘It’s My Business’ brings entrepreneurial education to over 7,500 students

0
Junior Achievement Ireland (JAI) is proud to announce the continuation of its impactful partnership with AIB, which will see the ‘It’s My Business’ entrepreneurial education programme extended for another three years. Now entering its fourth year, the initiative has already reached more than 7,500 4th class students across the country, supported by 500 volunteers from the business community. Launched in 2022, the programme was designed by JAI and AIB to foster entrepreneurial thinking and develop key transferable skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork in primary school students aged 9–10. Midleton Educate Together were amongst those to be paid a visit recently. All JAI’s programmes support the Department of Education’s DEIS Action Plan by promoting equality of opportunity through innovative, real-world learning experiences. Developing Young Entrepreneurs - With a Sustainable Focus Delivered over five engaging modules, the programme walks students through the fundamentals of starting a business - from identifying entrepreneurial characteristics, to researching markets and pitching business ideas. The programme culminates in a Dragons' Den-style pitch session, where students present their ideas to “investors” from the world of work. Over the past three years, students have developed a range of imaginative, sustainability-focused business ideas - including an app to detect food allergens, clothing that offers both UV and rain protection, and even a robot designed to help with housework. Recent projects have also featured upcycled musical instruments and sports gear, reflecting a strong interest in environmentally responsible innovation. Building for the Future AIB’s renewed sponsorship of ‘It’s My Business’ ensures the programme can continue to grow, with a target of reaching 12,000 students nationwide by 2028. To date, the programme has been delivered by volunteers from 70 JAI partner organisations, including 114 AIB employees who have generously given their time and expertise. This renewed commitment reinforces AIB’s nearly 30-year history of collaboration with JAI, built on a shared belief in the power of early intervention to develop entrepreneurial mindsets in young people. For more information on how to get involved in the programme, visit www.jai.ie
