Raw sewage was recently witnessed pouring into a stream at Carrignavar, as calls have again been extended to have works carried out at the overloaded waste water treatment plant (WWTP) in the village.
Outflow pipes from the plant, discharging to the River Cloghnagashee, which connects to the Glashaboy River, are being monitored by a group formed locally who are pushing to see capacity at the plant expanded. Oliver Manley, a founder of the group, said that images and video footage of raw sewage pouring from an overflow pipe was captured on Saturday last, July 25th.
“We have been monitoring the outflow from the waste water treatment plant in Carrignavar and in the last number of weeks, it has been very poor,” Mr Manley said. “This is an absolute disgrace. There’s no school operating at the minute and there’s 320 children and staff in the school, and they’re not there at all at the moment. The waste water treatment plant shouldn’t be overloaded.”
