Staff at Fermoy Community Youth Centre returned to work on Tuesday last for their official reopening to find the centre devastated by flooding.
According to centre manager Kieran Barry, the source of the flooding was a burst pipe in the main water supply to the centre, located in the attic.
While some portions of the building were not affected by the flooding, the entrance to the building, main office, upstairs and downstairs hallways, and bridge room were severely damaged.
Mr Barry described the flooding as ‘heartbreaking’ and ‘a major setback.'
“The whole place was redecorated by our own staff in the last couple of weeks in preparation for the reopening, it’s just heartbreaking,” he said.
