Peter to jump for Pieta to mark 70th birthday

For his 70th birthday and in memory of his father on the 50th anniversary of his passing, west Waterford man Peter O’Connor is taking on a parachute jump in aid of Pieta House. 

Mr O’Connor, who lives on the Cappoquin and Lismore border, has already raised over €1,000 in aid of the cause, and will continue his efforts in the hope of helping those struggling with mental health. 

“I went through severe depression 10 or 15 years ago and I spent 6 years on really heavy medication and I weaned myself off, which probably wasn’t a very good idea but I was suicidal for a long time,” he said. 

While he did not use Pieta’s services during his own mental health difficulties, Mr O’Connor said he was aware of many who have benefitted from their services.
