An Bord Pleanala has granted planning permission for the development of a new Tesco store at Mill Road, Fermoy (directly across from the Mart Car Park).
Initially granted planning permission by Cork County Council in July 2022 subject to 37 conditions, a third-party appeal saw the planning go before ABP with three key concerns – the site’s close proximity to the River Blackwater, traffic concerns, along with the possible negative effect on local businesses.
Tesco Ireland welcomed the news late on Wednesday evening (22nd).
“We look forward to opening a new store in the Cork town, which we believe will make an important contribution to the local economy, as well as helping to create new jobs in the area. Fermoy is a key part of our overall store footprint in Co. Cork, and we are committed to playing an important role in the community there for many years to come,” a statement read.
