Mitchelstown is set to give the participants of this year’s Rás Tailteann a major local send-off on Friday, May 22nd, as the town is ready to host the stage three start of one of the country’s most historic cycling races.
Riders will gather in Mitchelstown GAA Club before making their way through the town’s Georgian Quarter to New Square for the ceremonial start. From there, cyclists will race to Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, a 155.6km stage spanning across counties Cork, Tipperary, Kilkenny and Wexford.
The stage will follow two demanding opening race days (the 71st edition of Rás Tailteann starting in Portlaoise on May 20th) and, while much of the route is expected to be fast, race organisers say the twisting and technical profile could still play a key role. Two category 3 climbs are included along the route, before ending on an uphill finish into Enniscorthy.
