Fermoy doctor honoured at Irish Cancer Society Research Awards

Fermoy native Dr Brendan Noonan was amongst those honoured at the Irish Cancer Society Research Awards on Thursday last, February 19th, with recipients being recognised for their involvement in ground-breaking research projects around the country.

The event was hosted by the Irish Cancer Society’s Head of Research, Dr Claire Kilty at the Society’s Head Office in Ballsbridge, Dublin. Thursday’s event celebrated some of the amazing work in cancer research being carried out by nominees around Ireland, funded by the Irish Cancer Society.

25 new projects were funded by the Irish Cancer Society in 2025, with over 150 cancer researchers supported across Ireland. Among those to claim top honours was Dr Brendan Noonan, who scooped the Survivorship Award, alongside Prof Jack Gleeson of Cancer Research at University College Cork and their team; Anita Cahill (Advanced Nurse Practitioner, CUH), Steph Corkery (Senior Physiotherapist, CUH) and Katie Johnston (Senior Dietitian, CUH and UCC) for the LIAM Mc Trial.
