Works have begun on the first phase of the Ballyporeen Community Council/Scoil Teampall Toinne community developments, with the diggers coming on-site on Wednesday last week on the new AstroTurf facility.

The start of this project marks the beginning of a series of works in the village and will incorporate an 87 metre by 48 metre AstroTurf facility, a 1.3 kilometre community walk and the complete refurbishment of the old boys’ schoolhouse.

Chair of the local Community Council, James Hackett said that “there has been a great community effort to get this project off the ground and it’s great to see it coming to fruition.”

The AstroTurf is expected to be completed by early Spring next year. The local school are partnering with the Community Council on the projects, and principal Shane Molan said that “the benefits of this project will be immense for all groups right across the community.”
