“Our ESB and our gas heating, the last two months, exceeded €8,000. We had one case last year in 2025 where the two monthly bills came in at €9,900 for two months,” said Kieran Barry of Fermoy Community Youth Centre.

According to the experienced manager of the central town hub, the facility is struggling to survive, with bills for heating, lighting and water being the biggest costs they currently face.

“We’re finding it very, very difficult to save money and put money aside for a rainy day, to maintain the centre and keep it up to the high standard that we have built it up to be,” Mr Barry added.
