Kilfinane were crowned the overall Limerick ‘Going for Gold’ winner for 2023 on Wednesday night last week, winning €10,000 for their industrious efforts in the annual competition. The win was cause for jubilant celebrations, as the ‘wildcard’ entry beat 12 other communities for the honour.
Speaking with The Avondhu, chair of the Kilfinane Tidy Towns group, Ger Carey said they were thrilled with the win. With a core group of 10 or 12, she testified to the great support they get from the community and groups like the GAA when they have a ‘bigger project’ underway, like the Team Limerick Cleanup.
While initially surprised at the win, Ger says that ‘looking back, I don’t know why!’
