The devastating news of the death of Annas Shaladan, a 12-year-old boy in Palestine, broke last week and tributes have flowed in locally for the young boy and his family, who have connections to Fermoy town.
Just recently, the Fermoy Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) presented the proceeds of a fundraiser to Mahmoud and Abla Shaladan as they hoped to get Abla’s sister and her children across the border to safety in Cairo. However, now the family must contend with the senseless death of Mahmoud’s cousin, who was killed in a school bombing at a time when a ceasefire had been called to vaccinate children against polio.
Mahmoud, who lives in Ballincollig, shares a strong connection with Fermoy, having been involved in the development of the Faber Castell Business Park through his work with Cork County Council, a position he began back in 2002.
