A host of changes are proposed locally for several towns and villages under the Cork County Development Plan 2022-2028 Variation, which is currently out for public consultation.

There are a number of re-zoning proposals for Fermoy and Mitchelstown, largely surrounding the provision of housing.

New figures under the ‘Cork County Core Strategy Table’ outline that Fermoy has a proposed population target of 10,278 by 2034, as opposed to the 2022 Census population figure of 6,720.

In line with this, 1,137 housing units are proposed to meet the 2025-2034 housing target, requiring 56 zoned hectares in the plan.
