The much-anticipated third volume of the photographic book, ‘Pictorial Memories of Kilfinane’, containing 830 photographs dating from 1800 to the present day and compiled by Kilfinane Photographic Society, will be launched on Saturday, December 3rd.
Kilfinane local Hugh Murphy, said the book which is launched bi-annually, always makes a great Christmas present and is extremely popular with diaspora.
“It will make a great Christmas present. People across the water have a great interest in these books also, they like to get a copy,” said Mr Murphy.
‘Pictorial Memories of Kilfinane’ Volume I and Volume II were launched in December 2012 and November 2014, respectively. The upcoming edition includes pictures of former presidents of Ireland and the GAA, government ministers, rugby and soccer personalities, authors and entertainers.
It also depicts many festivals, shows and dances over the years. Mr Murphy said between the three volumes an impressive collection of photos has been built up.
“This book will bring it to a total of over 2,550 photographs published in the three volumes to date and indeed there are many more photographs available for publication. Thanks to all those people who gave photographs, without this help and cooperation there would be no book published. These books are a photographic history of Kilfinane through the years,” he said.
The launch of Volume III will take place at 8pm on Saturday, December 3, at The Church of Ireland in Kilfinane. Ballyhoura Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann will open the evening with an exhibition of music and song.
Performing the launch will be Kilfinane native Margaret Burke (nee O’Keeffe, formerly of Lower Main Street) and guest speaker on the night will be local hurling star, Richard McCarthy.
Kilfinane Photographic Society would like to thank their patrons who came on board to help defray the publication costs.
