The all-new Mazda CX-6e1 represents a new chapter in the evolution of Mazda design. Developed in Europe, in close collaboration with Mazda’s design team in Japan, the fully electric SUV explores new forms and proportions while remaining rooted in Mazda’s Kodo – Soul of Motion philosophy.
From the very beginning, the ambition behind the Mazda CX-6e was clear: to create a vehicle that feels fresh, progressive and emotionally engaging while remaining unmistakably Mazda. Designers were encouraged to think beyond established conventions and develop a stronger, more technical expression suitable for a new generation of electric vehicles, guided by the Soulful Futuristic Modern design theme. Particular attention was paid to proportion, surface treatment and wheel design, creating a lighter and sportier appearance while reinforcing the vehicle’s premium character and dynamic stance.
“One of our goals was to create a strong sense of tension throughout the design. Elements such as the fast silhouette, the floating D-pillar and the carefully sculpted body surfaces work together to give the vehicle a sense of movement and energy, even when standing still,” said Bahram Partaw, Lead Designer at Mazda’s European Research and Design Centre, Mazda Motor Europe.
The development of the CX-6e was characterised by an intensive exchange between Mazda’s design teams in Europe and Japan. Through a series of design reviews, clay-modelling and digital-modelling sessions, ideas were continuously refined and challenged from the first sketches to production-ready vehicle. This collaborative process allowed designers to combine fresh perspectives with Mazda’s established design heritage.
A strong emphasis was placed on craftsmanship throughout the project. Every surface, highlight and transition was carefully developed to create a sense of precision and quality, reflecting the Japanese principle of Takumi craftsmanship. The goal was not only to create an aerodynamic and technologically advanced vehicle, but also one that communicates warmth, authenticity and emotional appeal through its form and detailing.
For the CX-6e, aerodynamics were incorporated as an integral part of the design rather than added afterwards. Aerodynamic vents integrated into the front design help guide airflow through the front fascia and over the sculpted bonnet, while the compact digital side mirrors support the aerodynamic appearance and purity of the overall design. During the sketch phase, designers often draw vehicles without conventional exterior mirrors, making digital mirrors an opportunity to bring the original design vision closer to the final production vehicle.

Rather than changing the essence of Mazda design, we focused on finding new ways to express it through proportion, surface treatment and aerodynamic integration. The result is a vehicle that feels both progressive and while staying faithful to Mazda’s design philosophy.”
Accessory wheel design also played an important role in shaping the CX-6e’s character. Developed at Mazda’s European Research and Design Centre in Oberursel, the 21″ accessory wheel was created to complement the vehicle’s progressive design while offering a distinctive visual statement.
The all-new Mazda CX-6e will arrive in European showrooms in August 2026.
