While concern was expressed to The Avondhu last week about the removal of the roof from the former Presentation Convent overlooking Mitchelstown, Gerry O’Sullivan of Rockspring Properties, who are developing the site, says that ‘all that could be saved’ from the roof was some of the slates, while the lead valleys had been stripped of anything materially valuable some time ago.
Another accusation presented to The Avondhu claimed that a ‘magnificent copper beech’ was felled, and that this tree was one which the council had dictated needed to be preserved in the building development.
Mr O’Sullivan was unsure, when speaking with this newspaper, of what tree this referred to, but conceded that at least one has come down in the recent storms, and that ‘nature takes its course’.
