The Office of Public Works (OPW) and Cork County Council has announced plans to construct an €8 million flood relief scheme in Glanmire to prevent any future damage caused by flooding of the Glashaboy River.

A public exhibition will be held on the project later this month, with earth embankments and walls part of the plan to protect the town from severe floods, which were most recently experienced in 2012.

Dozens of houses and businesses were damaged in the flooding four years ago, with further flood damag witnessed at the turn of this year. It is hoped that work on the flood scheme would commence by the end of 2017, with an estimated completion date of two-and-a-half years.

The public exhibition on the project will be held on Monday, November 21st between 2-8pm at the Vienna Woods Hotel in Glanmire.
