Chairman of Fermoy Pitch and Putt Club, John Cahill, has been named the 2026 National Senior Gents Strokeplay champion, 25 years after first winning the title.
Mr Cahill secured the win in Tullamore, Co Offaly at the weekend, having led from start to finish, opening with excellent rounds of 45 and 46 in difficult scoring conditions, to take a 3-shot lead into the final 18 holes.
“I’m thrilled to win it. I won it 25 years ago, so I had to wait until the 25th anniversary to win another one! I’ve had some narrow defeats, so it was nice to finally get over the line,” a delighted John told The Avondhu.
The Fermoy man was pushed hard during the final round, with Ian Dillon of St Bridget’s drawing level with him at -22 with seven holes remaining.
