Speakers from a number of mental health services will be present at a mental health and suicide awareness evening being held in Mitchelstown this Saturday, October 1st.

Although this free event is predominantly aimed at teenagers to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health, everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend on the night.

A speaker from ReachOut.com will be present, an online youth mental health service, helping young people through tough times and was, in fact, the first of its kind in the world. Reflecting the need for reliable information on anything which could affect someone’s mental health, it supports those who are going through a tough time.

Launched in 2009 in Ireland, emphasis is placed on peer support and the principle that we all know someone going through a tough time.

TeenLine Ireland will also have a representative on the night – this is a free-phone and free text service dedicated to teenagers, whose volunteers are ordinary, every-day people who understand that young people need to be heard – they volunteer to listen and do it because they value young people and care about how they are feeling.

Their lines are open every day of the year from 8pm to 11pm and all calls are treated in confidence. Freephone 1800 833634. While their free text service is also open, simply text “TEEN” to 50015.

The Samaritans will also have a speaker present on Saturday night.

Local musicians Eamonn Walsh and Subject To Change will entertain those in attendance. While the proceeds of a raffle will go to the Leon Craven Memorial Headstone Fund, as well as M’town, located on Upper Cork Street.

Thanks are expressed to the shops and organisations in Mitchelstown that have already contributed towards the raffle.

Make a note of the date and venue and spread the word – Mitchelstown Town Hall, this Saturday, October 1st at 7.30pm.
