Limerick Greenway’s accessible 40km off-road experience is gearing up for another year of strong visitor numbers. Since its opening, the Greenway has recorded more than 1.5 million visits and Limerick City and County Council is working to grow this number even further.

Limerick Greenway will continue to enhance visitor facilities throughout the year, maintaining its current world-class offering while also providing something new to create a different kind of energy.

Designed with mobility in mind, the facility is safe and suitable for users of all abilities and ages to visit and enjoy. With thoughtfully designed pathways and facilities, Limerick Greenway embraces diversity, creating an environment where families, friends, and solo adventurers can connect with nature and each other.

The five hub towns/villages along Limerick Greenway are Rathkeale, Ardagh, Newcastle West, Barnagh and Abbeyfeale. Visitors can start their journey at Rathkeale or choose to join in at any of the entry points located along the way, with the option to seamlessly continue their journey from Abbeyfeale across the Limerick-Kerry border and onto Listowel.

The Greenway takes the visitor off-road via the three market towns of Rathkeale, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale.

Following a section of the old Limerick to Tralee railway line opened between 1867 and 1880, many features of the railway are still intact, including Barnagh Tunnel, Ferguson’s Viaduct and a number of former station houses. Users can experience the 115m Barnagh Train Tunnel and travel across the cast-iron Ferguson’s Viaduct, both restored relics of the 19th century Limerick to Kerry rail line.

The public are being encouraged to explore the scenic 40km off-road experience with activities and adventures for all in each of the hub towns plus on Limerick Greenway itself, which has now linked with the Kingdom of Kerry Greenway and users can continue their journey from Abbeyfeale to Listowel.
