Mitchelstown Musical Society is turning up the volume this March as they prepare to bring the worldwide hit musical ‘We Will Rock You’ to the Mitchelstown Leisure Centre, for four unforgettable nights of music, energy and community spirit.
The show runs from Wednesday 18th to Saturday, 21st March, 2026 at 8pm, with doors opening at 7.30pm. Audiences can expect powerful vocals, dynamic choreography and the legendary music of Queen, performed live, by an exceptionally talented local cast.
For anyone unfamiliar with the story, ‘We Will Rock You’ is set in a futuristic world, where live music has been banned and individuality has almost disappeared. The planet once known as Earth is now called iPlanet. Everyone dresses the same, thinks the same and listens to the same computer-generated songs. Musical instruments are forbidden and creativity has been stamped out by the powerful Globalsoft Corporation, led by the ruthless Killer Queen.
Not everyone is prepared to accept that kind of world.
When two young outsiders, Galileo and Scaramouche, begin to question the system, they set off on a journey to rediscover the lost power of Rock and Roll. Along the way, they encounter a group of rebels known as the Bohemians, who believe that real music still exists, somewhere in the past. What follows is a funny, fast-paced and uplifting story about freedom, identity and the unstoppable power of live performance.
The show features more than 20 of Queen’s greatest hits, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, Another One Bites the Dust, We Are the Champions and, of course, We Will Rock You. Even if you have never seen the musical before, you will know the soundtrack! Audiences can expect big vocals, electric atmosphere and plenty of moments that will have the entire Leisure Centre clapping, stomping and singing along.
Founded in 2006, Mitchelstown Musical Society has become a proud part of the town’s cultural life. Each year, the Society brings together performers, musicians, backstage crew and volunteers of all ages. Months of rehearsals, set building and costume preparation go into every production, all driven by local passion and dedication. It is a true community effort, with families, friends and local businesses all playing their part.
This year, the Society is also adding a few special touches to make the experience even more enjoyable. In response to popular demand, a Wine Bar will be available at the venue, alongside the usual teas, coffees and tuck shop, giving audiences even more reason to make a full night of it.
Before the curtain even rises, there are plenty of ways to get involved. The Official Launch Night will take place in The Firgrove Hotel on Friday, 6th March at 8pm. This is always a fantastic evening and a wonderful opportunity to meet the cast and crew, hear a preview of what is to come and soak up the excitement ahead of Show Week. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you are a long-time supporter of MMS or simply curious about this year’s show. It is a relaxed, enjoyable night that truly kicks everything off and gets people into the spirit of the production.
For those who prefer to buy tickets in person, the organising committee will once again host a special pop-up ticket shop at Mitchelstown Credit Union on Saturday, 28th February from 10am to 1pm. It is the perfect chance to secure your seats, ask any questions and even stop by for a chat. The committee always welcomes the opportunity to meet supporters face-to-face, so do call in and say hello.
Tickets are also available online at https://www.gr8events.ie/wewillrockyou-mms.
Opening night on Wednesday, 18th March is priced at €22, plus booking fee. Tickets for Thursday 19th to Saturday, 21st March are €27, plus booking fee.
Parental guidance is advised and strobe lighting will be used throughout the show.
With strong interest already building, early booking is recommended. If you are looking for a night of unforgettable music, high-energy performance and the chance to support local talent, Mitchelstown Musical Society promises a production that will have the town rocking this March.
