Plans are nearly complete for the celebration of the 1916 Rising in Kildorrery. After months of planning, fundraising and work it’s down to the last few details to be ironed out.

The monument, which has been built especially for the occasion, is now available for viewing along with its surroundings. To have been able to complete this project through our fundraising efforts speaks volumes of the people of Kildorrery and surrounding areas.

Our main event will be held on Sunday, April 24th which is the 100th anniversary of the rising with the unveiling of this monument. This is a major day in the history of Ireland and should be celebrated by all Irish people worldwide.

Our day starts with Mass in the parish church at 11am. The three choirs in the parish are getting together for this Mass and it is one not to be missed. After Mass we will have a parade from the churchyard and we hope to have as many different groups involved in this parade which will be led by the Liam Lynch Pipe Band from Anglesboro.

A few surprises on the way to the monument site will be had. The unveiling ceremony will contain, a reading of the Proclamation, poetry reading, oration by Dan Mulhall Irish Ambassador to Britain, raising of the tricolour and some song and music.

Preceding all of this we will have a concert in the parish hall on Thursday night, April 21st. Our special guest on the night will be the great Sean Ó Sé. Remember the last night he was with us, well don’t miss this one.

Also we will have our local school choirs and local group Eistigí on stage on the night. This will be a great night’s entertainment entitled ‘The Dawning of the Day’. Admission is just €8 and €2 for children.

We are hoping to have a few surprises for you as well on the night. We hope to see you there on the night.

Once again we take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support to us, the committee over the last 7 months in our fundraising efforts.

This monument and this day, April 24th belongs to you the people, so come along and commemorate it with us in Kildorrery.
