Remembering Elizabeth Bowen in Kildorrery

Elizabeth Bowen’s final resting place is in the cemetery adjoining St. Colman’s Church, Farahy – a short distance from the village of Kildorrery. 

Descended from an aristocratic Welsh family, the family home was in the now demolished Bowen’s Court, where Elizabeth (1899 – 1973) spent her formative years. 

She is regarded are one of Ireland’s great novelists, with some of her most influential works being ‘The Hotel’, ‘The House In Paris’ and ‘The Death Of The Heart’.
