Ballyporeen Gala Festival weekend is this coming weekend, with a fantastic weekend in store. It starts on Friday evening at 8pm with our townland Parade which should be very interesting to watch as this year – the theme is Musicals.
After the parade the six groups will be taking part in a Lip Sync battle in the hall, in the past this has been very entertaining. There will be music in the Doolis Inn after the lip sync.
Saturday is a jam-packed family fun day. Oh how I would love to be a child – we are starting off at 12pm with a duck derby. Ducks are currently on sale in the post office. We will then have a treasure hunt which will lead us up to the GAA field for our sports day. The treasure hunt is free of charge.
During the sports day we have a balloon modeller, face painter, a very exciting puppet show and to top it all off a magic show. During the day there will be side shows like welly throwing, milk the cow and bean toss, just to name a few. We will also be having kids and parents races on the day as well as blitz’s going on.
For the townlands we will be seeing them take part in tug of war, the very popular soccer tournament, flower arranging and brown bread making. There is a €5 entry fee for adults and children are free.
Later that night we have Stew Dixon playing at 7pm in Meaney’s Bar followed by DJ Mad Monk in O’Casey Bar. Also in O’Casey Bar, the townland have to nominate a couple to take part in a Mr & Mrs competition.
On the Sunday 26th we are holding a coffee morning in the hall in Ballyporeen. So, why not organise to meet up with your friends and enjoy a coffee and some nice homemade baking. All monies raised from this event will be going to St Theresa’s Hospital, Clogheen.
We have live music in the GAA field, gates open at 2pm. On the day we have the very popular Rebel Hearts who will be supported by our very own Seamus Hennessy and the very lively Flake the Gander.
