Fermoy Musical Society are slap bang in the middle of preparations for 'Crazy For You' - an Ira and George Gershwin classic that has been revamped and revitalized in recent times. The north Cork based musical society are one of the oldest in the country with almost a century of performances under their theatrical belts.

Under the stewardship of current president, Liam Fenton, the society has lost none of its energy or enthusiasm and the expectation is that the society will once again deliver in no uncertain terms.

That sense of expectation was heightened at last Friday night's formal launch in Fermoy Community Youth Centre when musical society members and a wide circle of supporters gathered to promote a show that is scheduled to run from Sunday, April 21 to Saturday, April 27.

President Liam Fenton thanked everyone for their attendance and wished all concerned with the show every good wish. Fermoy Musical Society was part of the social fabric of the town and its longevity was due in no small way to the commitment and loyalty of those who devoted so much time and effort to the various musicals over the years, Mr Fenton said.

There were also words of support from long-time musical society devotee, Cllr Michael Hanley. The society, Cllr Hanley said, was an example of what could be achieved when people worked together in a spirit of generosity and goodwill.

In his contribution, 'Crazy For You' director, Bryan Flynn, conceded that it was a formidable undertaking but expressed confidence that everyone would rise to the challenge.

"In many ways it's not a straightforward production and it certainly places considerable demands on the cast and stage crew, however, I've every reason to believe that with the necessary focus, we can put on show that all concerned with can be very proud" he said.
