Minor works at Glanworth Wastewater Treatment Plant, beginning in the first three months of this year, will only allow some limited capacity for building in the village as these works are largely intended to bring the plant up to standard. A larger project to increase capacity for building in the village remains in the planning stages.
An EPA inspection carried out in early September 2022 found that the plant is overloaded and only operating at 50% capacity. Back then, Irish Water (now Uisce Éireann) told The Avondhu that they planned to replace certain faulty equipment, however the EPA report noted that even if it this equipment was working correctly, the plant is still not able to cope.
No date has been provided by Uisce Éireann as of yet for the completion of the capital programme for Glanworth, where large developments are stalled as they cannot use the public water system. However, there are indications that it should be completed in seven years time, as per plans by a private developer in the area.
