
Members of the Hyland family, joined by Mitchelstown Business Association, representatives from Cork County Council and local councillors, oversaw the official switch-on of the Christmas lights in Mitchelstown last Saturday evening.
The attendance of the Hyland family was very significant, as the late Sean ‘Sam’ Hyland, was recalled as a ‘stalwart of the Christmas lights in Mitchelstown’. For many years, he was the driving force behind putting up and taking down the lights; he also designed individual storage racks for the delicate lights.
Speaking at last Saturday’s ceremony, Sam’s wife, Geraldine Hyland, said Sam always looked forward to Christmas.
