
An online fundraiser set up in aid of a local teacher has this week surpassed €43,000.
Mitchelstown Ballygiblin Juvenile Committee and St Fanahan’s Camogie Club set up the iDonate page in aid of Kilbehenny local, Claire Downey-Smith, a science and maths teacher at Coláiste Fionnchua in Mitchelstown, who was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, a life-limiting condition.
Aged just 41, Claire has seen the disease impacting her mobility, and now needs to adapt her home where she lives with her husband Mark and their three young children, Fionn (9), Aoibheann (8) and Odhran (4).
Treasa Moher, who has taught alongside Claire for around 10 years, explained that planning is underway for another fundraiser in aid of the family …
