LOVE LETTER TO OUR SPORT
Ireland has always written poems about its heroes.
About warriors, About rebels, About those who changed the course of history.
Now, we write one for you.
We love what you are.
Not perfect, Not easy, Not given.
Earned, Fought for, Built over time.
We love what you’ve become.
Not just a sport, but a powerful movement born from a whisper in 1974 at Hayes’ Hotel, defying the judgment of “unladylike” and the dismissive talk of “frail feminine fingers.”
We love your strength, Your fight, Your refusal to stop.
We watched, As the silence broke, The crowds grew. The nation began to see,
To see how you’ve changed what people believe is possible.
We love what you give to those who watch, And to those who play.
We love how far we’ve come, And we love how far we’re going.
This poem is still being written,
And we will write it together,
For the Love of Our Sport. For the Love of Ladies Gaelic Football.
