Turkey Trot triumph in Castlelyons

The 5k turkey trot, organised as a fundraiser in aid of Castlelyons/Bridesbridge Tidy Towns last Sunday, proved a great success for everyone concerned.

Last Sunday’s pre-Christmas fundraiser in aid of Castlelyons/Bridesbridge Tidy Towns was a success on all fronts.

This well organised event centred on a 5km fun run (Turkey Trot). Not an overly exerting distance, the run attracted a large field of athletes. Everyone completed the race with prizes going to first, second and third (male and female). Those seeking a more leisurely option could sign up for a 2km family walk. It remained dry for the outdoor part of the programme, which was a big bonus.

The indoor segment comprised fun games, cake sale, refreshments, face painting, Santa visit and elves’ activities – all of which took place in Castlelyons Community Centre.

The ‘Trot’ facilitated individuals and families and there was a good-humoured atmosphere throughout. Enjoyable and community orientated, the fun runs and children’s amusements helped generate valuable revenue for Castlelyons/Bridesbridge Tidy Towns committee – a voluntary group committed to enhancing both villages.

The committee are grateful to all their supporters and sponsors. They especially want to thank community activist, James Ronayne for his assistance in promoting the fundraiser.
