A bench seat was unveiled and blessed in Ballyhooly cemetery recently by Very Rev Fr Pat Scanlan, parish priest of Castletownroche and Ballyhooly, in memory of the late Philly Leahy.

The seat was funded by Ann and the Leahy family and was facilitated by the local ICA Guild. The guild and the community would like to express their appreciation to the Leahy family for this seat which will be widely used and will act as a fitting memory to Philly who, in his time, would have liked nothing better that to linger for a while and chat.

Philly’s sudden passing on April 6, 2014 brought with it total shock and disbelief.  A great community man all his life, Philly was standing for the County Council election at the time of his death and had been heavily involved in the election campaign.

The seat in the cemetery is a fitting tribute to a man who loved everything about his parish and community.
