Mitchelstown Active Retirement members gathered together last week for a party in the Town Hall, followed by a safety talk from Community Garda, John Hennessy.

The party was organised by Tesco's community champion Liz Downes, and sandwiches, biscuits and tea was provided while each guest was also given a box of chocolates.

Throughout the year, Liz organises for different people from various organisations to give talks to the group and last week's one was a talk on community safety by Garda John Hennessy.

On the day, Garda Hennessy presented the members with call back cards, which they could use if someone unknown to them calls to the house. The idea behind them is that rather than giving out information at their door, they can use these cards by An Garda Siochana to get details from someone, verify them with the Gardai and get back to them later. This gives them control of the situation and Gardai advise if anyone is unsure about someone's identity, they should contact the Gardai.
