According to records, Midleton Show has been taking place for well over 100 years. While the east Cork town has changed a lot in those 10 decades, an active and very hardworking committee continue to keep this long running event going.

Judging by what we witnessed last Sunday, this celebration of country life is still very popular and despite a lot of counter attractions, remains a huge hit with the public. One of the big changes to the show in recent times has been its relocation to another rapidly expanding east cork location, Watergrasshill – the Fell family farm in Ballindenisk to be precise.

This is a busy setting, accommodating as it does, point-to-points and other equestrian sports. On Sunday last, it welcomed back the horses, in addition to livestock and other farm animals for what was the 118th staging of Midleton Show. The show brought together prize winning animals, along with dogs, their owners and a myriad of activities that ranged from traditional crafts, art, baking, knitting, needlework, horticulture and competitions for best dressed attendees. When you throw in trade stalls, farm machinery, children’s activities, amusements and various culinary offerings, you have all the ingredients of a first class show.
