Two students from Loreto Secondary School in Fermoy were among the winners at this year’s Texaco Children’s Art Competition, the 62nd staging of the annual event.

Both Alexandra Ohrim (16) and Katie Cody (17) received a special merit award for their artwork and were each awarded an art box worth €150.

Competing in the senior category, for students aged between 16 and 18, special merit awards were presented to just 15 entries.

Alexandra’s painting was entitled ‘Blackberries’ while Katie’s was ‘Kerr and Par’. Their art teacher in Loreto, Elenor Curtin, congratulated both students on their success and complimented them on their fine artistic abilities.

“Alexandra’s painting was of blackberries, it was literally of blackberries and briars in the ditch but it was a beautiful painting, and Katie Cody’s was of her uncle and her mother as children, it was based on an old photo of them. They’re both very talented students,” Ms Curtin said.
