School secretaries and caretakers across the region and the wider country are preparing to mount a strike, as they continue to seek pension parity.

Watergrasshill based secretary and Fórsa branch secretary, Noreen O’Callaghan, said that school principals have been notified of the intention to strike, and several local schools will be impacted.

“It’s awful. None of us want to go on strike, but unfortunately, we are forced to do it. All Fórsa schools will be involved,” she stated.

As well as Watergrasshill National School, where Ms O’Callaghan works, schools in Mitchelstown, Fermoy, Glenville, Carraig na bhFear and Ballyhooly will be impacted, after a motion was passed with a 98% vote in favour of strike action.
