There was a sense of shock and sadness around Mitchelstown last Thursday, as news broke of the untimely passing of June Murphy, a former Fermoy Municipal District councillor and much admired community activist.

From Church Street in the town, June had been battling illness with a time and she passed peacefully at Marymount Hospice, Cork on Wednesday 21st in the presence of her loving family.

At Monday’s meeting of Cork County Council, elected members heard that a book of condolences would be opened at County Hall in memory of the former councillor.

Several councillors extended votes of sympathy to Ms Murphy’s family, stating that she will be ‘sorely missed’.
