An ongoing planning application to develop a new retail centre within the Blackwater Shopping Centre in Fermoy relates to Iceland’s plans to open a store in the town, The Avondhu understands.

The frozen food giant announced in April that it planned to open a store in Fermoy as part of a major expansion that will see a total of nine new stores open around the country.

A planning application within the Blackwater Shopping Centre, seeking to amalgamate the vacant units one, two and three and to change the use of unit one from an amusement arcade to retail use, was submitted to Cork County Council in late June.
