The work of a committed and loyal volunteer was recognised in Mitchelstown earlier this week when Robert Riley was presented with a plaque and clock from his colleagues at the NCBI retail store in New Square in recognition of his outstanding contribution as a volunteer at the shop.

Robert who has been a stalwart at the store for ten years said volunteering is a two-way thing.

“I realised whilst working for meals on wheels in England that quite often I was the only person that the elderly people met on a daily basis.”

Robert said as he approached retirement age himself, he was determined that he would get out as often as he could to meet people.
