A meeting arranged in October 1983 to rally support for Fermoy hospital (St. Patrick’s Community Hospital, Fermoy) marks the official start of the hospital’s fundraising association. Over its 40 years in existence, the voluntary group has raised hundreds of thousands for this vital facility.
To mark the association’s 40th anniversary, a book launch took place in the hospital last Tuesday evening. In attendance were fundraisers, past and present, along with local politicians and representatives from hospital management.
Attendees were welcomed by one of the associaton’s founder members, former Fermoy Town Councillor, Tadhg O’Donovan. Following his opening remarks, Tadhg requested a minute’s silence for deceased members of the association. He then proceeded to outline the history of the hospital, from its origins as a workhouse, through the centuries to what it is today – a first class facility for residents.
