It's time to get out the cycling helmets or put on the walking shoes, as the Special Friends fundraising cycle and walk takes place at the end of this month.

Those who are a little pedal happy can opt for the 15km, 40km or longer 80km cycle while there will also be a 5km walk - all taking place on Saturday, August 31 and there will be lots of fun and games afterwards with entertainment, food and a family fun evening. Registration for the event will be at CBS Mitchelstown and the cycle/walk will finish up in Abbey Farm.

Special Friends are a voluntary group of parents who are a support for parents of children with special needs and every year the service grows. They now offer their services to 16 children from Mitchelstown, Ballyduff, Kilbehenny, Ballylanders, Glenroe, Kildorrery, Rathcormac and Burncourt.

The group meet on a monthly basis at 8pm on the last Tuesday of each month.

Each year, the cycle and walk is well supported and the organisers hope that the community will get behind them again for this year's event. The group would not be able to continue without the generosity of people from Mitchelstown and the surrounding areas.
