Some 3 years in the planning, kickboxing enthusiast, award-winning farmer and senior housing officer at Cork University Hospital (CUH) Patrick O’Connor, will battle the wilds of the Atlantic Ocean in the coming month, with the aim of raising funds for the paediatric department at CUH.

The self-confessed ‘jack of all trades and master of none’, will go head to head with all the Atlantic can throw at him, with an ambitious target to reach the finishing point of the Carribean island of Antigua in 40-45 days.

Supported in ambition by close friends Seán Underwood (Blarney), Eoin O'Farrell (Ballinlough) and Thomas Browne (Dublin), the intrepid team, aptly named ‘Relentless’, will compete in the grueling 2017 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, setting off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands on December 12th.

Known as one of the toughest challenges on earth, made more difficult by raging seas, howling winds, sharks, blisters and salt rashes, sunstroke and sleep deprivation, there is little wonder that a mere 500 people have completed the event.
