Facilitator sought for Rainbow Library Project celebrating LGBTQIA+ creativity

Applications are being invited from Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service for the position of Rainbow Library Facilitator, a unique opportunity to support and inspire young LGBTQIA+ writers and artists across the county.

Rainbow Library is a vibrant creative writing and illustration initiative that celebrates and amplifies the voices of LGBTQIA+ young people aged 14 to 23. Through regular workshops, mentorship, and publication opportunities, the project provides a safe, inclusive space for participants to explore identity, storytelling and self-expression.

An important element of the of Cork county’s creative engagement with young people, participants in Rainbow Library work alongside professional writers and illustrators to develop original stories and artwork that reflect the diversity of modern Ireland. The group have published anthologies showcase the creativity, imagination, and courage of Cork’s young LGBTQIA+ community and participated in West Cork Literary Festival, Dublin Literature Festival and Cork Zine Fest.

FIXED TERM ROLE

Cork County Council is now seeking a Rainbow Library Facilitator to lead monthly creative writing workshops and seasonal camps for LGBTQIA+ youth. The successful candidate will guide participants through the process of developing written work, collaborating with illustrators, and contributing to the next Rainbow Library anthology.

The role is part-time, fixed-term for 12 months, with a total annual fee of €5,000 to €7,000, and involves approximately one workshop per month along with Easter and Summer creative camps.

Applicants should be experienced writers with a strong portfolio of work (published or self-published) and a passion for engaging young people through creative projects. Confidence, empathy, and a commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion are essential.

Commenting on the initiative, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, Mayor of County Cork, said that the Rainbow Library “gives young LGBTQIA+ people a platform to tell their own stories and see their experiences reflected in literature”.
