A female driver had a lucky escape on Monday morning when the car she was driving overturned just outside Glenville.

An eyewitness told The Avondhu that the car ‘went from one side of the road to the other, flipped over, landed on the roof’ with the occupant trapped inside.

Billy Bane, Chief Fire Officer in Fermoy, confirmed to The Avondhu that they attended the scene along with an ambulance and gardaí.

“She lost control and the car overturned, the morning was wet and there were leaves on the road,” he said.

The driver was not seriously injured in the early morning incident. Mr Bane said she suffered ‘only a scratch’.

Mr Bane, meanwhile, credited the excellent work of the Blackwater Sub Aqua Club in the recent cleaning job in the River Blackwater in Fermoy.

“I got on to Timmy Carey and Olan O’Farrell and to be fair to them, they did a fantastic job. They cleaned the whole weir.”
