A funding shortfall for a cycleway that would link Fermoy, Kilworth and Mitchelstown could be solved with community fundraising according to recently retired GP, Joe Moran who believes that the project would have ‘a massive positive impact on the health of the region’.
Funding has been secured for the installation of a new footpath on the R639 road leading to Moorepark Campus and the creation of a cycle way, with road markings of 13km, between Mitchelstown and Fermoy, with Killworth also benefiting from its proximity to the route.
But the full project of dedicated cycle lanes only extends to the research and development facility however, and not to link Mitchelstown and Fermoy.
