There was early Christmas cheer in Mitchelstown last Saturday evening with the arrival of the new Christmas lights, worth a whopping €42,500. Maurice Walsh, who was MC on the evening, said it was the first time in history Santa Claus and Mrs Claus had left the North Pole a whole six weeks before Christmas to see the boys and girls of Mitchelstown.

There was a huge turnout at the event which saw the lights delivered to the town on the back of a special Aldi Christmas truck, and everyone was so excited, said Mitchelstown’s Farmer in Charge.

“It was an unbelievable atmosphere. I personally did not expect to see so many people out so soon before Christmas. We were really excited, it was great to see. Santa and Mrs Claus were so good to the kids,” said Maurice.

The Aldi truck delivering the new lights stopped on its way to Mitchelstown in Glanmire, Watergrasshill, Rathcormac and Fermoy.
