Country markets, farmers’ markets, organic produce markets, not for profits markets, pop-up markets and village markets have all made a comeback in recent times.
With many large supermarkets showing little interest in small producers, it’s good to see the independent market sector doing so well. The public got to see one such market in operation, when stallholders turned out in force for last Friday evening’s market in Kilworth.
Those interested in local history will point to the fact that the Market House is still an occupied building in the heart of Cill Uird and that prior to Fermoy’s current status as provincial town, the real wheeling and dealing was done in a village made famous by Liam de Norraidh (Billy Norris), Molly Barry and another ‘Billy’, Willie Brennan of Brennan On The Moore fame.
