Decorative lighting to remain in areas of ‘heritage significance’

Decorative lighting at public car parks, ring roads, social housing estates, locations not of heritage significance, locations non compatible with road design and adjoining lighting, one-off installations and private housing estates are to be replaced with standard LED fittings, West Waterford councillors have heard. 

The update, shared recently by Cllr Niamh O’Donovan, comes as over 150 residents of Lismore have expressed concern and dissatisfaction with regard to the installation of new street lighting throughout the town centre. 

As the installation of new LED lights got underway in Lismore, Tallow and elsewhere, residents noted that the traditional latern-style lights were being replaced with ‘stark, industrial-style lighting’ and mounted a petition to see the installation of the new lights halted until a solution could be found.
