Past and current members of Mitchelstown Macra (formerly Mitchelstown Young Farmers) celebrated 100 years in existence with a spectacular centenary ball in The Firgrove Hotel last Saturday night.

Over 200 people attended what was a very well organised event that featured memorabilia from the past, a photographic exhibition, a selection of vintage machinery, along with an appearance from the Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Healy Rea.

Guests were formally greeted by the chairman of Mitchelstown Macra, Kevin Casey. In his remarks, Kevin said it was a great honour to preside over an organisation that had served the wider farming community in Mitchelstown for ten decades. He went on to thank his fellow officers who had worked tirelessly preparing for what he described as ‘the highlight of our centenary celebrations’.
