An attempt for community grant funds to be reallocated within different projects in Castlelyons has been quashed by Fermoy Municipal Authority, as has an additional request for a grant to be provided to the Tidy Towns groups within the community.
In a motion issued at last week’s meeting of the municipal authority, recently co-opted councillor Deirdre O’Brien called for a ‘grant to be allocated to Castlelyons/Bridesbridge Tidy Towns Committee to complete an unfinished project on developing a bank by the school, which has now become a visual eyesore’.
Cllr O’Brien asked that the group receive a grant – estimated at €3,000 or €4,000 by colleague Cllr Frank O’Flynn – as the project has ‘worked out bigger than planned initially’ and they are faced with constructing a retaining wall at the site, located in front of the national school in the village.
