A request that works be carried out to prevent further erosion of the road at Upper Ballyclough toward Curraghalla Church near Mallow was made at Tuesday’s meeting of the Fermoy Local Area Electoral committee. Cllr Kevin O’Keefe made the request. He was told by area engineer Brendan O’Gorman that the top section of the road was the worst.
“We don’t have finance for proper drainage. There’s two dozen roads that have that issue at the moment,” the engineer remarked.
He explained that the lands are higher than the road on both sides at the location so there’s currently nowhere for the water to go except down the road edge. Only routine localised drainage works can be carried out at the lower end as no funds are available for concrete drainage channels at the higher end. Land owners are to be consulted to see if there’s a possibility that open drains can be run through private lands to take water off the road, the engineer advised.
