A joint venture between the ESB and Coillte will see 14 wind turbines constructed on the Ballyhoura Mountains at a location between Doneraile and Buttevant. Known after a local townland, when fully operational, Castlepook Wind Farm, will be capable of supplying 20,000 households. 

While the project hasn’t been without detractors, those behind the venture say it’s a vital piece of infrastructure if Ireland is to meet its renewable energy targets (40% by 2020).

Several years in the planning, the windfarm is presently at construction stage with hundreds of tonnes of concrete already transported to the site.
